Oh Vacation - The Beautiful Mono Lake - Part 3

Visiting Mono Lake was completely an accident on the way from Yosemite to Reno we stopped off in some town for lunch and we saw this post card of the tofas at Mono Lake and I asked the cashier where this was and he told us and it was 5-10 minutes.  Naturally we took a side trip down a gravel road to see them.  We got there just as a storm was brewing but we had enough time for the mile or so hike and boy was it worth it.  As we ran out of the trail back to the car I couldn't help but wish we had been their longer.
Lake Mono is a salt water lake where tofas are formed at the edge and little brine shrimp (aka sea monkey's) also live.  The formations are really amazing and the water was so still and calm there weren't any people on it.  Of course it's called "mono" lake so perhaps that's it - I wouldn't be interested in Mono either.   But trust me this place is lovely.
