WIP Wednesday - End of October

I have been making progress on the Michael Miller Chalenge Quilt.  I am about 75% done with the quilting with any luck I will finish by this weekend.  I made the mistake of quilting it with some kind of thread in my stash and it keeps breaking which is way annoying but I no longer can win the challenge so it is what it is.
I also am mostly finished wih jonesy's halloween costume.  I need to make some adjustments so it fits him better can't wait to debut it this weekend.

Also our roof is done and we are now working on the porch roofs and the internal repairs.  Anyone have ideas for how to make 1950s aluminum awnings look less 1950s?  I am tempted to repaint the trim piece the siding color and have them install it when they do the work.  Otherwise it will just be white.
And in other news playing catch up with project life too and the baby's book watch for a post on those.

WIP Wednesday Hello October

So a few things in progress around here.
We are getting a new roof - permits are up shingles are selected and arriving with work crew tomorrow.  So yes that's happening.  After the roof we have some internal repairs that need to get done like the ceilings in the guest room, bathroom and kitchen too.  So that will happen soon too.
I bought and had peg board trimmed for my home office space. (Huzzah for my pickup truck driving brother returning from Australia).  I am envisioning something like this only with my notebooks and stapler and postits etc hanging on it.  And I think neon orange or lime to match the almost finished quilt for Dustin instead of white.
Also printed about 100 photos for project life and jones's baby book too.  Planning on that this evening.
And last but not least working on these puppies...
Improv Blocks for mine and Thea's improv quilt project.  I did 8 more for hers and started 6 for mine.  I think maybe this might be the last set of them so I might make a few more too.  (I desperately need to iron these).

Finished Quilt Top - Michael Miller Challenge Quilt

I have been meaning to post this work in progress for several weeks on Wednesdays but I never got pictures.
This is the top for my Michael miller Challenge quilt with the Modern Quilt Guild.  The challenge was to use the fabric sent by the guild adding only solids or other MM fabrics.
When I started this I knew I wanted to make rectangle blocks because lately everything seems square.  This whole quilt was going to be triangles in rectangles but I was not into paper piecing and ran out of aqua fabric.  So I improvised.
I am making this one for Dustin his first quilt made by me.  Now to finish it off starting with ironing it.  I ordered fabric for the back specifically for Dust they are in violation of the challenge rules but I will miss the deadline anyhow.

WIP Wednesday - Quilts & Nursery

Well over the weekend I finished up the nursery quilt (watch for post about that).  I also got some work done on my Michael Miller MQG Challenge Quilt.  I don't want to give away too many details about this quilt but here are a few snaps from my table.
Yep that's a pretty horrible sneak peek.  Sorry. I am making this quilt for Dust he will be very sad to learn there's no zombies or bacon.
I also got the batting for the sushi quilt but I have bow misplaced the 9000 basting pins and I refuse to buy more so maybe that will get quilted soon of maybe in a year!
And as for a nursery update...
We make progress slowly I moved the shelf from our room to the nursery and set up all the books.  I also got all the unused green bins and baskets I emptied from the garage studio now I just need to get some blue ones too.  I washed all his sheets and clothes for infant size.  I also organized all the shower gifts so the can go in baskets when I get that organized.
Clearly this is still a hot mess! But it will come together soon.  The other side of the room is worse because my "desk" is back in the room while we figure out space issues in our room.
Kathleen may have a dresser we can repurpose for his changing table I need to go over there and see if I can fix the drawers.  If not we'll need to just bite the bullet and buy one because all the thrift store and craigslist adventures have resulted in a bunch of nothing.
And that's what's working on Wednesday.

WIP Wednesday - Quilts and Nursery

I started #babyburfs quilt last week sometime.  The top is all pieced now. It is not even close to my originally intended which was using a solid and making all the farfalles in the prints, but it's growing on me and I also found I did not have enough of the solid anyhow. I am working on finishing the back now.   Maybe I will finish this prior to #babyburf arriving.  (ps again sorry I didn't bother with ironing this.)
Last week I mentioned that floors and paint were done in the nursery.  Well I got the crib assembled (note was slightly less "ebony" than I wanted and was scratched several places when I took it from the box but I was not letting that slow progress).  I have also been bringing furniture back into his room as well. We decided he should have the blue velvet chair that once graced my living room although it will probably go in another spot even though we bought a rocker.  And I have been cleaning out some of the green baskets from the craft room to reuse on the shelf that will eventually move in here.
It's slowly coming together in here.  I found a few prints that I bought at an art fair like 5 years ago that match his room perfectly so I am going to hang them some place.  Won't that quilt be perfect for his room whenever I finish it?
I also started my MQG Michael Miller challenge quilt but it's not really time to be sharing that just yet. So that's it for now.

WIP Wednesday - #babyburfs room

This week I have made no progress on quilts.  I already posted #babyburf book I started so the only other work in progress is his room.  Which is very much in progress.
This is because I ripped out the carpets Friday night.  What a difference this makes.
The carpets have been here longer than me so 10+ years and while I have cleaned them once they were still gross.  This was a big debate for Dust and I as he still feels strongly we should have carpet for the baby - I could not disagree more.
I won by just ripping them out while he was man timing.  And luckily they are in good shape.   Extra good.   I was very pleased.   Kathleen helped me remove the tack strips and staples and soon they will get a good thorough cleaning, followed by a new coat of seal.  But for now I feel extra lucky they are not rotted or damaged.  I consider that a major win.

WIP Wednesday - Arrow Quilt/Nursery/Sushi Quilt

So I finished the quilt top for the arrow quilt.  However I have no place to pin it up right now due to the nursery projects in progress.   So I laid it on our bed which makes it hard to photograph.  But here it is.   I have been envisioning the backing in some kind of tangerine orange but alas that is not available in my stash.  So I haven't started it yet.  I might have a yellow vintage sheet that will work but the new gym equipment is blocking that part of my stash.  So it waits.

The nursery projects - I have been reducing my craft supplies in the nursery so they can move into my closet.  My purging has reduced the active stash from 3 bags to 1 of stash.  And it's organized by project.  Winning. And tomorrow after work - I hope to start ripping out the carpet in the baby's room pending Troy or Dustin getting home early enough to help me swap beds and move the bins around in the babies room tonight.
Sushi Quilt - I actually started the back of this based on dimensions I estimated (no place to pin fabric up see arrow quilt update).  I am hoping to get this one ready for quilting by the May IMQG event.
(ps I wrote this yesterday but never hit post).

WIP - Progress is Progress

Wednesday already huh?  Time is floating by so quickly.  I have made progress on things around here although not as much as my liking.
Things in Progress:
#babyburf room - all painting but the molding and touch-up is officially done.  We had a major Pinterest fail on the emphasis wall but Kathleen and I emphasized and boom it was remedied although not to perfection.  I will share photos soon.
The Girlfriend Scrapvomit Quilt - got basted and I started the quilting on this one day last week when the idea of painting made me ill.  It's probably actually 4 hours from finished.  Yay on that!
Purging - I kind of stopped with this right after I found a bin of fabric that can be used to finish the Sushi Quilt.  I still easily have 5-10 shelves/bins I should go through but Dust got his gym set up around my mess.  I do have this on my to do list to finish though.
Kitchen Table - This project should have been super simple.  I did my research I sketched my plans.  Then I tried to buy the supplies.  I needed trips to 4 home improvement stores (no one place had enough of what I needed).  I also went to 4 salvages looking for interesting wood for the top.  I did hand select some old hardwoods for it however I am like 1sq foot short and I may scrap that component completely from my design.   But I have the top and legs mostly assembled however my drill battery died mid screws last night so it's on hold while it charges up.
Other Projects -
+Finished up some secret bridal shower crafts for Lo's shower (photos soon).
+Bought a book for #babyburf to create his own baby book.  I am going to do this in a simple style.  I pulled a bunch of random supplies that have been designated for this project.
+ new Roomate mostly moved in.  Check
Onward and upward into the week.

WIP Wednesday - Purging, Nursery, Spareroom

So the flu got me after our return from our trip.  Which makes the progress on things around here sloooooowwww.  But things are happening:
+ Dust's building a new gym which will share space with my garage studio so I have been trying to purge a little out there.  I got rid of about 95% of all random school books, papers etc I had done dating back to my freshmen years of high school.  Seriously who wants to read my flash cards about the French Revolution? Not me.  I kept only things I truly thought special.
+ I am also working on consolidating my crafting/art supplies.  While it's nice to have a mini supply store I have found much of what I have I am not actually actively using, nor do I really love, nor will I use it.  So supplies like floral arranging, beading, art journaling knicknacks, purse/belt making supplies will soon be sold or moving on to the local goodwill.
+ I am very torn about what I want to do with my rubber stamp collection.  This is a very expensive part of my craft supplies but honestly I am not using a good deal of these and they take up a massive amount of space.  I am especially partial of my alphabets which I easily have over 100 sets of.  They get used more than the images I have; but they also take up a huge amount of space and will I ever stamp 100 different letter "b"s not very likely.  For now I am keeping them although I did pair down a few sets of stamps that just aren't really my style to purge.  I still need to decide what makes the most sense with these.
+ In addition to all the action happening in the garage the Babyburf's room now has two walls painted one blue and one green.  I am hoping Kathleen wants to help me finish with the other two this week.  Especially since we'll be buying the crib and maybe dresser this weekend!
+ We also are clearing out some space in the guest room too.  As we have other news in that we're getting a new roommate starting next week.   Even though Dust and I had discussed that the next person to room with us would selfishly be our child and that we would stop having the random revolving door of roommates/houseguests.  Sometimes God has other plans, we recently had the opportunity to help out a friend.   And we both felt like it's the right thing to do, so he is coming to live with us for a little while and so that's also a new project in the works.

WIP Wednesday - Babyburfs Nursery

No progress on quilts while we were out of town but right before we left Kathleen and I started painting in the babies room.  A few before shots.  This room was our guest room with my office/sewing room.  It wasn't really this messy before but when you think you can paint without emptying the room this happens.
We put up the primer on all the walls (never mind our crappy job of it) and now comes the fun stuff.  I hope to get the paint up in the next week so I can move the guest bed back in and the big shelf from our room too because that's where my new work from home space will be.  Until then I am bouncing from the sofa to the kitchen and back.  I am also super jazzed because we found a friend who can seal the living room floors and the still carpeted bedrooms for a super reasonable price.  SCORE!
Oh and if anyone has any suggestions for if I should cover the mirrored closet doors, remove them or just leave them let me know?  I was thinking whiteboard or chalkboard paint could be fun, or maybe a stripe of some sort.
