#babyburf 4 months

Dear #babyburf -
You're four months!  Finally growing bigger too, we recently retired all the 0 sized clothes and moved you up into 3-6 months.
+You sleep between 8-9 hours a night and this is a miracle (we love it).
+You love to grab your feet and put them in your mouth.
+You coo when you sleep at night and it's so nice so we know you are alive.
+You like to play with your toys specifically your hungry caterpillar, and your weird loop ball.
+You try to sit yourself up most of the time when we lay you down it's like baby crunches.
+You prefer not to held like a baby unless you are sleepy or it's grandma holding you.
+You try and cover your eyes when eating to block the light.
+You giggle and laugh at things we don't even know why.
+You have a new chair that lets you sit up-right and supports you before you can sit in the high-chair. +You love to have a spoon when you sit in said chair.
+You talk baby talk all the time - mostly to mommy.
+You love singing.
+You eat about 5-6 oz at a time although we have seen you take up to 8 which usually results in spit up.  (We added in formula because mommy can't keep up with the pumping.)
+You can roll about 3/4th of the way over but then stop for some reason and either roll back or lean on your side.
+Mommy loves to play with you after work and loves that you are full of spunk!  She regularly rolls with your spit up on her.  You like to grab her face.  You also love to sit on her lap when it's meal time because you are fascinated by food and cannot wait to actually get something other than milk.   We spent our first night apart when I was in a wedding and you were so excited to see me when I came to get you the next morning.
+Daddy has been working super hard lately.  He was on call for two + weeks and he thinks you learned all this talking while he was out doing emergency work.  He likes to have you stand while holding his hands.  He still tries to sneak you into our bed at night but I usually put you back into your bed. You like to grab at his beard and run your hands thru it.
We love you so much little one.
Love Mommy

The best thing I ever made

I am not joking when I say that #babyburf is the best thing I ever made.  He's seriously magic.   A true gift from god.  Sure he might keep me up all night and make things like showering difficult but he is the best.  So pardon the interruptions of blogging while I examine his perfect little fingers and spend my days nuzzling his sweet head.

#babyburf Nursery

No longer a Work in Progress.  The Baby's nursery is finally ready.
This dresser took us forever to locate and then my friend Kathleen just so happened to have an antique one she didn't need and it's dark wood (SOLID wood it's heavy).  That's pretty much awesome.
Anyhow here are some completed photos.  The crib we purchased new from Amazon with a gift card.  I made the quilt, crib skirt and mobile.  The Dresser will also be his changing table but we need to get a pad to add to the top.  There's a basket with cloth wipes and changing "accessories that was re-purposed from my craft room.   And the accent wall was our pinterest fail that we just decided to own and freehand ourselves.
We are using a Simple Human trash can with a wet-dry bag for our cloth diapers.   The dresser contains most of his little clothes, the cloth diapers and some Project Life books (because he won't know any different ;).  I want to find a rug to match too but honestly I don't care if I don't I like the hardwoods by themselves.
On the other side of the room. I re-purposed my old craft shelf which will hold baby things and toys, and books.   I still need to get a few more matching baskets but Megan and Dan gave me the blue striped one, and I found the green bucket at Ikea in the gardening section.
All the others were re-purposed from my craftroom.    The blue velvet chair was a thrift store find and while I said goodbye to the sofa I held onto the chair because I love it.
I had these prints I picked up at a art show for a mentally challenged work program like 5+ years ago maybe and I they seemed to match his room so I decided to put them up.  PS I've had them all this time and never did anything with them (they are hung straighter in real life too).

We hung these mirrors from Ikea up too (ignore the finger prints).   This toy box was Dustin's dad's and currently it holds blankets but at some point it can hold the baby's toys.  I want to make a matching cushion for it and already bought fabric but it's a project for another time.

And while his closet is not entirely storing his stuff he does have a bunch of cute little outfits that we hung up for him.
My friend Lynley and I painted his name on the wall too.  It's funky and imperfect and that's exactly what I love about it.

Oh I would be remiss not to throw out a thanks to my project sidekick Kathleen who painted, pulled staples, opened baby boxes, sorted clothes, gave us the dresser and so much more.  THANK YOU!
And to my husband who also puts up with my never ending projects that seem to happen in the babies room even when he disagrees with what's happening - Thanks mister!
Now all we need is the baby to show up already - and we wait.

#babyburf Third Trimester

As we wait for the arrival of our little guy I figured it was probably time for a third trimester update. While things are still fresh in my mind here's a third trimester list-
  • Today we are at 39 weeks.
  • He's over 8 lbs probably and actually probably about 9 lbs now.
  • I am feeling and seeing him move around in my belly.
  • He's very active however he likes to stop when others try to feel him moving, especially his dad.

  • I have even more heartburn - I will not miss this once the baby comes.
  • I continually feel like I have been riding a horse as my hips and pelvic region are changing.
  • I now waddle walk which I try not to do but sometimes it's unavoidable.
  • I'm still not into traditional baby stuff so much but I have accepted some of it will be here it's unavoidable. (It's a struggle).
  • I am very excited for cloth diapers and cloth wipes.
  • We are very excited to meet and see him as are his aunts, uncles and grandparents - being the first grand baby makes it just that much more exciting.
  • Sleeping has become more difficult at I get up at least 5 times to use the restroom at night.
  • My pelvic has hurt significantly in the last few weeks which I find walking around and stretching seems to help.
  • The doctor says this is because he's positioned himself lower in my pelvis (positioning himself for labor).
  • Dustin would be very pleased if he just went ahead and showed up already he asks me several times a day if the baby is coming now.
  • He also has been telling people I'm "nesting".
  • I'm not entirely sure he knows what nesting is which is too cute.
  • I'm actually sick to death of everyone asking me how I feel.
  • I have decided that maternity leave in the USA is a joke.
  • I am grateful however to have the tiniest leave at my company.
  • Also grateful to have good insurance that covers almost 100% of normal pregnancy stuff.

  • Seems I'm a slacker when it comes to taking baby bump photos.
  • We wrote a birth plan.
  • We are taking some birthing classes.
  • I'm also guessing that he doesn't actually come until after his due date even though he's positioned, I'm dilated, and I have had sporadic contractions.
  • I think maybe like 6/19 or 6/20.
  • We will just see though you never know - see you soon little guy.

    The waiting game...

We're waiting for #babyburf who could come at any point now.  We are just about a week to the due date.  The doctor tells us any day now.  Dustin can't hardly wait he would like to schedule a c-section now so he can just get it over with.  But we are trying to be patient.  The baby is over 8lbs but luckily they do not think he will be over 10lbs at birth so this is positive, he's positioned we have had sporadic contractions as he gets ready to come and meet us.   Thanks to Kathleen who took a few fun photos of us in the last few days - sadly it was sunny and we were both a little squinty.   Can't wait to see you little guy.

Tuesday 10 - Love At This Moment

I have not posted a Tuesday 10 in ages but today I just had a hankering for a list so here's a list of things I am loving at this moment.
    1. This baby rattle.  My friends constantly tell me I need more toys for baby burf and this is approved made by Bannor Toys.
    2.  Simple Human Trash Cans.  We replaced our crappy trash can last year with a Simple Human and loved it so much.  I bought one to use as the diaper pail.  Lined with a wet dry bag we are set.
    3. Indiana Strawberries - I love these so much more than big fat California grown ones.  And it's a sign of summer.
    4. Single Girl Scrapbook's Blog aka tracyxo.com - I do realize I am not longer single but I still enjoy seeing single girls documenting their life as a former documenting single it's relate able.  I also love how she crops some of her photos they are just too fun.
    5.  Wooden High Chair (thanks to Kathleen's Mom for finding this gem for me)
    6. Coupons!  I am not an extreme couponer by any means but I have been saving coupons to get groceries and things for the baby and have probably saved a few hundred dollars recently
    7. Maxi Dresses - these are seriously a staple to avoid buying maternity clothes.  I'm told they are also ideal for nursing double bonus!
    8. Swimming Pools - If Someone wants to give me the down payment for a house with an in-ground swimming pool I will not complain. Luckily I have some city pools nearby and a few friends with pools.

    9. Getting a New Master Bed (This was long overdue).
    10. When this guy wears his contacts.  I'm hoping summer brings out the contacts more than before.

#babyburf Nursery Paint and Floors Done

Feeling very acomplished to have finished painting and the floors in the babies room.  Dustin is much more on board with the hardwoods now that they are done (he actually asked if we could rip out the carpet in Troys room next).
I originally was going to go with black and white only on the walls but then Dustin wanted Blue and we got to the store and green was added too.
We had seen on Pinterest this technique for potato stamping and thought it looked cool.  Turns out it's waaaaay harder than it looks.   We ended up tossing the potatoes after like 8 imprints and just freehanding our circles.  It was a major Pinterest Fail, but we saved it.  However we stopped with one wall only.

There is one blue, one green, and one white wall, and then the circle accent wall.  I love that it's not perfect.

The floors are the original oak hardwoods.  I scraped off the old paint drips with an extacto knife. Then I cleaned them three times with ammonia. There wasn't any sealant on the floor so I didn't sand them.  Dustin then applied several coats of a high quality polyurethane letting it dry in between.  I think they look great for floors over 60 years old that have been hiding under carpet for the last 30+ years.  I found remenants of both a weird green carpet and a sexy red shag both such lovely options when I ripped out the carpet.  The room also has been a pastely Seafoam, a peach and yellow, plus our former colors tan and chive through the years. It's fun seeing the history of this house.

Anyhow I am now excited to get his crib set up and move in his other furniture so the room is ready when he comes.  Oh and if you didn't notice I also need to replace the outlet covers and register - I'll get there.

    WIP Wednesday - #babyburfs room

This week I have made no progress on quilts.  I already posted #babyburf book I started so the only other work in progress is his room.  Which is very much in progress.
This is because I ripped out the carpets Friday night.  What a difference this makes.
The carpets have been here longer than me so 10+ years and while I have cleaned them once they were still gross.  This was a big debate for Dust and I as he still feels strongly we should have carpet for the baby - I could not disagree more.
I won by just ripping them out while he was man timing.  And luckily they are in good shape.   Extra good.   I was very pleased.   Kathleen helped me remove the tack strips and staples and soon they will get a good thorough cleaning, followed by a new coat of seal.  But for now I feel extra lucky they are not rotted or damaged.  I consider that a major win.
