The big 6.

Last week this kid turned six.  If there had been no pandemic We were supposed to have gone to Florida and Legoland and then come home for a big a Lego party.  But that did NOT seem safe so instead we landed on him inviting a friend fishing and swimming at the local lake.  His friend brought his sister and mom and auntie Kathleen came.  Anyhow it was a good fish party.
He caught a giant catfish which snapped the line before we got it in.  But we saw it and it was big.  I am glad I didn’t have to unhook it and touch it, the worms were bad enough.
Even though we hit the lake before noon it was really much busier than it has been in years, people mostly kept their distance with a few exceptions.
It was a good weekend and for maybe 20 minutes I was out in public and not worried about social distancing and then someone would get close and I would yell at my kids to give someone space.  Ugh.

I bought him a trampoline and some legos and we had his favorite meal of Mexican.

Anyhow happy birthday to my fun, loving, clever boy who loves the color red, wants to be a lego master builder and wishes the neighbors cat was his.

Easter

Easter this year was not perfect or ideal.  We did church online, we didn’t invite anyone over, we had meltdowns.  I didn’t make bread or pie because of other priorities and fits.

But we really do have so many things to be thankful for and need to keep be pointed back to god in this time.  He will ease our fears and anxiety. I must say it’s been helpful for me to do a short devotional before prayer time in the morning and then at bed most nights.

Photo above shoes one of the dioramas we made of Jesus’s tomb I love how they turned out.

24 Cross Stitch 100daysofkatiesxstitch

I ended up doing 100 days of cross stitch.  So far I have made this little portrait of my family - I plan to add a border but I am not sure what I want to be so I left it.

I started a triangle cross-stitch but I don’t love it.  I think I might change it up later but I also put it aside for now.

Now I am working on this Bee and Flower cross stitch.  I am planning to add another bee and maybe some fun butterflies too.  I don’t have any patterns I am just kind of loosely getting inspiration from other cross stitch and nature.
I look forward to continuing this project.  I have wanted to cross stitch for a while but never bought any cloth so this has been a fun 10-15 minutes of craftiness in a time that seems to be extra busy and crazy.

100 Day Projects

Tomorrow I plan to start the 100 day project.  This is my 5th time doing it I think.
2016 I did drawings (i think i did 18)
2017 I did 100 Yeses.
2018 I did 100 Notes from Katie
2019 I did tried to do 100 family selfies (this was my favorite one).
I have NEVER finished in any of the years.  Although I usually get to about 80.
This year I have been wrestling with what I want to do.  I am trying to decide between something sewing and art journaling.  I think I am going to land on embroidery which may or may not also be in my art journal.  Although I haven’t officially determined the details.  I also may jump ship and get creative with video instead.

46 - Make doughnuts

Since we aren’t going anywhere or seeing friends.  I have been baking and cooking things.  This past weekend I made biscuit doughnuts with a glaze and sprinkles, oh the holes i did cinnamon and sugar.
They were enjoyed.  I prefer a cake doughnut but I didn’t want to sift a bunch of flour.

Two more hikes

Well since we have officially been social distancing 8 days we have gone on two hikes at the local state park.  They weren’t long maybe 20-30 minutes plus we did some exploring too another 20 minutes or so.
We did the Sugar Bush trail up to the point where there was a massive mud pit and turned around the other trail wasn’t a real trail just where someone made a path as there was no signage and it ended maybe 10 minutes up in a thicket of thorns.
I guess if there’s an upside of the coronavirus it’s that we have been getting in nature more.

March Hike

One of my goals was to get the kids out hiking.  In March we took our first hike we went to the swinging bridge with cub scouts.  It was muddy, but fun.  Although I must admit I am not really into hiking.  I will say i do prefer when there’s a hike to something like to the bridge.
We found this beaver lodge Theas standing with here.

8 - Mermaid Birthday

Thea wanted a mermaid pool party so I made it happen.  She had about 20+ friends who came. I rented a hotel pool, made a mermaid cake and game. Instead of goodie bags I did little swimming barbies and Koosh balls for boys or those who didn’t want a doll.  They swam, drew mermaids, ate cake, played pin the necklace on the mermaid and photo booth.  It was a good time, she loved it.  My favorite was when one kid left she asked if she could have her party at the hotel and move in!  Lol!
Happy birthday girl.

6 - Diversify Wardrobe - In Progress

This year I wanted to diversify my wardrobe from my standard black and gray and next to no patterns.  So far I bought myself two dresses.  One that’s flowered and one that’s purple velvet.  Amazing fashion blogger selfies below.  (Maybe I will take better photos later but just sharing my progress).  Enjoy!
