This was my pool read this summer. And I was delighted to read at the pool this summer but I also found reading competing with socializing with many friends who we’d run into at the pool so this short book literally took me all summer to read and I barely finished it. It wasn’t my favorite book, but I got it in the little free library and Kurt Vonnegut is from Indiana. So it goes.

27 - someplace new
Technically I have been to Pittsburgh before, but honestly I remembered like nothing. So I am considering this “new”.
I took the kids on a trip just by myself. Pittsburgh is not terribly far from us and actually the drive is very much like 1/2 the drive to DC.
Each day we each picked things we wanted to do (from a list/or within reason), and we did that. There were a few snafus like that “bicycle heaven” was more than a few minutes away, we got twisted around driving, and showed up to a historical site that was closed.
But otherwise everyone got to have a little of the things they like and we had many fun adventures.
One surprising thing that happened twice was screenprinting. Warhol is from Pittsburgh and apparently we kept going places where randomly screen printing workshops were happening and we got to try it. My kids both enjoyed it and recommended we get our own speedball paint, pizza oven and screen.

1200 miles - June Update
In June I bought myself a new Apple Watch. So the last few days of June which were crazy busy I did start resuming my 1,200 miles goal. In June I logged a measley 25.9 miles. Not impressive in the least bit but considering it was just 7 days of tracking that’s reasonable.
This takes me to the grand total of 511.2 miles for the year. Onward and upward towards this goal.
(Photo unrelated but from our Kings Island trip in June).

45 - The Wilds
Thea is a big fan of secrets of the zoo. Part of it features the the wilds which is in Ohio. This summer is the summer of our “short” trips and so when I decided to take my kids to Pittsburgh I saw that the wilds was like of on the way. So we made it happen. You can use the zoo reciprocal benefit for 1/2 price tickets which makes them reasonable. The conservation park is the largest one in North America and it’s really very large. We enjoyed it and out your guard was great. Also to Thea’s delight she saw several animals from Secret of the Zoo as well as Kurt one of the zookeepers did from the show.

Book 3 - The Last Garden In England
I have started soooooo many books in the last few months I actually just made myself finish this one. This one i even read as an audio book. the Last Garden in England by Julia Kelly was not really my favorite book it was a bit hard to follow because it’s following several womens stories and I kept being confused which women it was following and which time period it was. But I made myself finish it. Their stories kind of came together at the end. I did enjoy the bits about the gardens I want to look more into English gardens.

Movie 2 - The Beguiled
For my second movie this year I randomly watched The Beguiled. (Technically I also watched a few movies my kids picked) I can’t say it was good it was kind of meh. Very Sofia Coppola. I do love a historical period type movie and story but this one was just very moody.

22 - New Shoes
I bought new running shoes x3. This year.
However I had to return 2 pairs! It seems either the shoes sizes are changing or my feet grew. The weird thing is I literally bought the same exact shoes I was currently wearing and my big toe was like popping out the end. So then I ordered Kiziks which are a bit wide for my feet in size 12 but my toe was not poking thru at the end so I kept them. Kiziks are shoes that don’t requiring tying which is MOST convenient for me as I usually just throw them on on the way out of the door.

1200 miles Update
In May my Apple Watch broke. Sad day.
But before it broke I had 86.9 miles in the first 24 days so that leaves me at 485.3 miles for 2022. It was actually a good month for walking. I wish I had the last few days of may in there too. But until I get a new watch it’s stalled.
