Week in the Life - Tuesday

Tuesday I took more photos yay.  The above is probably my favorite.

Tuesday started out with jones waking up and me still wanting to sleep in. 

I got up.  

I got him up.

I changed him. 

We ate breakfast together cereal for us both.

I started work he played quietly.

Grandma got up and got ready to leave.  

Jones wanted to hang out with her and followed her around like a puppy.

He blew her kisses and waved bye bye.

He had a meltdown when she left out the backdoor. 

I got daddy up.

I went back to work.

Daddy and jones went to the mall to the play area.

I had lunch by myself I fixed leftover noodles and chili.

I went back to work.

Working still on Hot Topics and also sending out mail merges for my upcoming classes that have low enrollment.

Jones and dad come home and fix lunch.

They pop in and say hi.  

I notice jones has peed on dads shirt.

Jones laughs hysterically.

Me too.

Jones eats.

Jones enjoys that dad gave him ketchup.

He makes a mess in like 10 seconds.

He really enjoys ketchup.

I finish work up about 5:15.

I close my laptop.

I leave my bedroom/office.

Jones is very eager to see me and follow me.

We unload the dishes. (Photo above).

I wash the bottles.

He gets out Tupperware.

We fix supper.

Jones stands on a chair and puts spoons and bowls in the newly cleaned out sink.  

I prepare turkey meatballs, corn on the cob, grapes, and Mac and cheese.

Dad leaves to go to an appointment.

We end up eating without him.

Jones does not want meatballs but does eat everything else.  

He wants to use a spoon.

I especially enjoy the Indiana sweet corn. (It was 10 cents at the market and is so yummy).

We go for a walk with his bike.  

Jones stands forward in it so we go faster.

We come home and take a bath.  

Jones enjoys baths and plays for a while.

Dad comes home.

Jones gets pjs on.

Jones reads books.

We tickle him.

Jones brings me a blanket and I know he's ready for bed.

Dad tucks him in.  

I go clean up the kitchen.

I sweep.

I mop.

I sort quilt projects and cut some Charity Quilt block pieces.

I chill on the couch and read The Dirty Life.

I am ready for bed about 10:15.

Dustin comes in a little after me.

We talk for a while.  

We doze of sometime after midnight.

Week In The Life - Monday

I am playing along with Ali Edwards - Week in the Life as a way to capture our everyday this year last year I snapped 14 photos every 14th and it was a struggle so I figure this might be easier.  Here are the words and photos from Monday (mostly words as I took only four photos and one screen snap). 

I put off getting up hitting snooze only 5 times.  Jones was still asleep when my alarm went off at 6:30 so I was able to start work by myself.  I started with emails and scheduling items.  

Jones true to form heard me typing and rattled the drying rack next to his bed so he could get up.

Diaper change and we moved to the kitchen for breakfast and more work.

I made us both eggs and cheese.  

He is attempting to learn about using a fork/spoon so it was messier than normal.  With each bite he pronounces it "Yummmm" until he's done eating and then he pushes eggs to the floor.

I have a quick call with my boss while he's still eating. 

Momo and Dustin take over as babysitters after a diaper change and I dress jones.

And just like every Monday we had the engagement scrum at 9:30, it always runs over an extra 30 minutes as we have more work than resources.

I turn on music after the call and work on building an elearning for the Hot Topic Series (this is typical day to day stuff).

Around 11:00 I tell Dustin he better get in the shower - he does not.  

Around 11:15 I take a quick shower and get back to work.

I tell Dustin again to shower as we need to leave for the doctor soon.

He finally gets in.

At 12 I beat on the shower door telling him we need to leave 5 minutes ago.

He seems to take his time and I go get in the car so he knows I mean we are leaving.

Momo is babysitting Jones while we go to the doctor.

We finally leave at 12:15.

The doctors office is empty which is good since we are late.

We only have an ultrasound scheduled so we don't wait long.

We see our first pictures of baby #2.

We hear the heartbeat. 

They give us a due date 2/11/16.  Prior to this we hadn't known since I had had my period.

We comment that this is close to Uncle Joes birthday and valentines.

The baby doesn't reveal the sex.

Afterward back home to work and lunch.

The afternoon speeds by I listen to TedRadio as I work.

Dustin announces baby #2 on Facebook this starts a string of texts from girlfriends I hadn't told yet.

They include comments like "you are crazy", "you have way more energy than me", "you need a bigger house", and "omg that's awesome".

I stop working about 5:30 simply closing the laptop and leaving the bedroom/office.

I play with jones for a little bit after supper and Dustin folds laundry and watches SVU.

Then I fix supper jones is on my heels helping.

We eat. Turkey burgers, beans and baked potato.

Afterward target and Aldi with mom and Jones.

I pick up overnight diapers, butter and milk - milk is $1.69 so I buy three.

Back home Jones is playing puzzles and ball.  

Bath time.

Pajamas.

Popcorn with dad.

I put him to bed he tells me when he's ready usually grabbing a blanket and saying "baba".

I start diapers, load the dishwasher.

I wipe down the counters.

Dustin and mom watch SVU.

I read on my phone "The Dirty Life"  - my current book that hasn't been abandoned.  

I also Pinterest and check social media.

I contemplate working on a quilt but keep reading instead.

Around 10:35 I head to bed, Dustin follows shortly after.

We talk for a while find a light up ball in our bed, then doze off.

That's Monday.

Works In Progress - Quilting

So I have several in project projects. Actually more like 50,  when you are trying not to spend money you stay in and quilt or read or clean.  

Anyhow here are a few projects I am working on...

Indy Modern's Low Volume Charity Quilt:

These need a good ironing and trimming but I started on them and I cut pieces for more.  I seem to have lost my yardage bin of white gray cream fabrics as I only had scraps to pull from.  Some of my scraps were a little borderline low volume but they will be fine in the mix.  The blocks were so fast after I cut the pieces I  hope we can get the 60 blocks by October as needed.

Baby Girl Half Squares:

The baby arrived so I am a little behind on this luckily I cut enough squares to make a much larger front and now I have enough for the back and front.  And with any luck I can quilt and bind this before we take the new parents dinner this weekend.  Thank goodness for baby quilts.

Rainbow Quilt:

This one was going to go to a friends baby but I like it too much so I decided to keep it myself.   I cut the backing but need larger batting.  I love these super scrappiness.

Other Projects:

I actually have been working on my improv quilt and attempting to piece the front somehow I got that jumbled and I now need to refigure how to do it.  I also have cut pieces for two other baby quilts.  I am hoping to get done before said babies arrive later this month or next month.  

26 - 5 Craft Projects 2 - Make Over Jumper

I should have photographed this when not being worn by a toddler who doesn't stand still much.  This started our life as a jumper with a saying on it.  And since jonesy needed a patriotic outfit and I am too cheap to buy the $32 one I liked, I redid this one.  

I used fabric scraps to stitch on a mock flag.  I had some issues at the neck but improvised.  And now we have a patriotic jumper.  It seems to wash well and I like how it wrinkled up.  So that's craft #2 - working on three already.

Book 50 - A Life From Scratch by Sasha Martin

I started and abandoned like 4 Book 50s, I even got thru about half of Russell Brands latest book but couldn't finish it.  However I started "A Life From Scratch" by Sasha Martin on Friday and I finished it Sunday.   What can I say I enjoy a good memoir and who doesn't love memoirs with bits about food too.  I rather enjoyed it, I thought it was going to be like Julie and Julia but it was not really.  There's some humor and some sadness too and I so love the idea of a community table.   Anyhow that leave two more and I finally finished my 52 Books which I started like 4 years ago.  Clearly 10 books per year is a better goal for me. 

52 for 15 Update

A little update on where I am with my list.   We're just over the half-way point of the year so it's probably good I have completed 13 items on my list and have 15 started.    Also another like 10 or so are easy ones so with any luck maybe I'll be close to finishing my list this year.   There are a few things that will not get completed though as the ship sailed on those but here's to a strong last half of the year.

July was a terrible month for walking.  I lost my Fitbit at the end of June.  I didn't replace it until mid month.  Then I was sick for over two weeks in July.  Jones was sicker so we did even less than normal.  Because my Fitbit was missing I just put in 11 miles for each of the two missing weeks - this might be low but it's hard to correctly estimate.  That made for  almost 47 miles in July, the lowest so far this summer.  Anyhow hopefully we are on the upswing in August.  I want to take jones to zoo a few times and to the state fair as well.

July Family Photos

Well in July I took 1 family photo.  A selfie.  I thought I had taken more at my birthday at the fireworks either time we went, but no there was only this one photo from July.  This was post a walk around 100 Acres at the IMA, which I am sad to say - seemed mosquito infested and several of the exhibits were gone or closed so we weren't as impressed.  

13 Months

Last year we took monthly photos of jones in his blue chair and diaper so we could see how he grew.  This year I thought about continuing that, but I have moved the blue chair and he's not so interested in sitting or even standing in it.

So I thought about other ideas while he was busy recovering from a nasty summer cold he had.  I finally decided  we should take photos in front of different walls outside in the city each month.  This allows him to move around and it will capture the seasons, our home, and some of his super cute clothes.  Anyhow I didn't put much thought into where we would go we literally just drove past the guitar stopped, hopped out of the car snapped about 30 photos then got back in the car.   It was perfectly what I wanted.  This mural is outside Arthur's Music in Fountain Square, which is an area we often go to play trivia.  Anyhow here's what's happening at 13 months...

Jones is walking and talking most of the time.  

He says Dada, mama, ball, bath, bye bye, hi, bite, eat, mine, yaya (grandma), no no, uh huh (yes), baba (bottle), in, and out.

He still loves playing ball, we often play put balls in the clothes basket.

He loves music and will him or sing with songs he enjoys Elmo song and old McDonald.

Several times a day he requests going bye bye and will often bring me his shoes or my shoes so we can go bye bye which can be just outside or to the store.

He likes firetrucks and when he hears them he will stop playing and listen, then make a siren noise.

He recently learned about drawing and made a few sketches in pen (pen I find is easier to keep him from eating or writing on everything).

He likes to read the truck book and Dora goes on a picnic.

His hair is finally coming in better and I think will definitely be brown like mine.

We love him immensely and find it such a joy as he learn new things.

#9 Log Cabin Quilt

I wasn't intended to make a big log cabin quilt but I did.  This is my Riley Blake MQG Challenge quilt. I wasn't totally in love with Thai fabric and then when I ordered additional Riley Blake fabric to add I found the green didn't match - ugh.  But I made it work I actually love the green I think it ended up working out.  Part of the challenge was to try something new so I actually hand quilted and machine quilted this too, not that you can tell from the photo.  Big stitch style.  Not my best work but I like how it turned out. 

Thanks to my sister for holding this for me and to my baby for strutting his stuff around it.
