Halloween 2020

I love making Halloween costumes.  I will be sad when my kids don’t want me to. Thea wanted to be Rapunzel from Tangled specifically.  Jones wanted to be an Enderman from Minecraft (for the record I didn’t know what that was and he doesn’t play Minecraft except at friends houses but somehow knows all about it.)

Thea’s dress originally had puffed sleeves but they looked weird so I ended up removing them and allowing her to wear a shirt or coat under her dress.  It’s made from quilting cotton i had in my stash and ribbon that matched.  I made her lizard and pan from things in the recycle bin and tape.
Joness costume is made from a painted morph suit + the big square head covered in tape with purple sticky foam around the eyes.  I also made his sword from cardboard and reinforced with tape.
For trick or treat our neighborhood association requested everyone stay distanced and do little “tables” or stations for the kids so you could see them but separated.  Everyone made cute displays, shoots, music, slides, light up things and it seemed very safe.

Bonus costumes.  Jones wore his age 2 Spider costume to school (still fits) and Thea was JoJo Siwa for her school as well.

Halloween 2019

And just like that halloween is over.  Jones ghost costume I made did get worn but only last night for trick or treating and while it was all that he wanted it was terrible weather for a ghost costume that catches all the wind.  Lol.

48 - event with Kathleen and Lynley

Jones asked me no fewer than ten times if we could go to the haunted house at the museum again.  So I made plans to go with Lynley (and famil) and Kathleen.  We did the lights on as my kids would find it too scary otherwise. It was still spooky but they just didn’t notice. We are hit up the museumto visit some of the other exhibits. It was fun for the kids to play together.  Both Lynley’s son and Thea were super into the carousel and rode it many times.

Jack-o-lanterns

I love pumpkin carving.  This year she asked for cat and “drew” one and I cut a cat, jones actually drew his face and I cut it his mouth was like 1000 teeth but I simplified it for carving.  Jones specially loved the tall skinny pumpkin and Thea loved her little one.  Auntie Lita cut one as well as did our neighbor Garrett - luckily I bought enough pumpkins.
Thea did NOT like the guts and Jones didn’t mind them but his tall pumpkin was too tall for him to reach the bottom of the pumpkin.
Anyhow some snaps of our jack-o-lanterns:

Halloween

Every year I look forward to making Halloween costumes this year she picked any easy one and he more difficult.  They are True (of the Netflix show), and Bowser (from Mario).  We went to a bunch of Halloween events so we got to wear them many times my kids actually wore several dress up box costumes to mix things up.
His costume I patterned all the pieces myself and used felt and fleece because it’s forgiving.

Make Halloween costumes was on my list for this year.

Jones has been reading the Big Bad Wolf and decided he should be that.  He really wanted Thea to be 3 little pigs but I couldn’t make that happen so I made her Little Red Riding Hood.  I found a pattern online for the big bad wolf and then when we went to buy fur jones it was $30/yard on sale!  I needed two yards so very quickly I decided I would not make his costume if the expense was that great and we ordered it online for $20.  For little red I did make her costume except for the dress which I had already in the closet.  I patterned the cape from one of her hoodies and made the apron using her overalls as a template.  The tutu was basically tulle tied onto elastic.   It was pretty easy to do.

We went to several Halloween events including the Halloween parade where they were picked for a top costume and won free pizza.  They were a little sad when Halloween was over and Jones has already requested to be a ninja turtle for Christmas.  Lol.
Both costumes have been now recycled into the dress up bin.
