Pool People Summer

I think we are having “pool people summer” here in Ohio.  It is probably not different than normal summer (excluding 2020 when the pool had weird rules and no passes).  But as usual we are loving our pool days and nights.  The laundry room usually smells of chlorine and my kids usually have sunscreen half smeared on their necks and legs.  My kids now seem to have tanned glow and I am am slightly more pink
It’s been raining for like a week straight and this is driving me crazy because we haven’t been to the pool because of that.  Hopefully sunny days will return and we can resume our pool evenings and afternoons.

Thea attempted her swim test but failed the floating part the girl does not float she sinks or flails around like a crazy child.  But jones passed his last year and delights in jumping off the diving boards with his friends.
It’s also very popular to play ping pong and four square at the pool this summer and when my kids aren’t begging for snack shoppe money they play these games with their friends.

The big 6.

Last week this kid turned six.  If there had been no pandemic We were supposed to have gone to Florida and Legoland and then come home for a big a Lego party.  But that did NOT seem safe so instead we landed on him inviting a friend fishing and swimming at the local lake.  His friend brought his sister and mom and auntie Kathleen came.  Anyhow it was a good fish party.
He caught a giant catfish which snapped the line before we got it in.  But we saw it and it was big.  I am glad I didn’t have to unhook it and touch it, the worms were bad enough.
Even though we hit the lake before noon it was really much busier than it has been in years, people mostly kept their distance with a few exceptions.
It was a good weekend and for maybe 20 minutes I was out in public and not worried about social distancing and then someone would get close and I would yell at my kids to give someone space.  Ugh.

I bought him a trampoline and some legos and we had his favorite meal of Mexican.

Anyhow happy birthday to my fun, loving, clever boy who loves the color red, wants to be a lego master builder and wishes the neighbors cat was his.

More Summer Bucket List

We’ve been busy with our summer bucket list.  We hit up two parades, Brooks birthday, moms birthday, Jones birthday, the new pool opened, the drive in movies, three band concerts, made jam, spring street treats, picked strawberries and more I am sure.  We still have several we need to cross off though and good month and a half left of summer to do it.

Our Summer Bucket List

We made our summer bucket list recently (we actually already started crossing things off).  Theas contributions were so funny she wants to Karoke, Parades, band concerts and sandcastle.  Jones wants indoor playground, s’mores, wildberry.
Anyhow we are already well into having fun we have hit up chuckecheese and picked berries too.  My kids enjoyed both events thoroughly.

We tried another Berry farm but we prefer freels farm and it’s much closer.

last days of the Tri Pool

All summer long we have been hitting up the pool 2-4 days a week. We go so much I had to buy the kids many new suits because there was always one or two in the wash.  We have loved our pool pass.  We usually pack a snack and water bottles.  Sometimes we bring friends sometimes we meet them there.  And sometimes we have the place to ourselves.  And occasionally it’s crowded.  It’s been a great summer.
This is the last summer for the tri pool.  They are building a new fancy pool in the new city park.  This is the same pool I grew up going to.  So it’s filled with memories for both me and my kids. Anyhow we have loved it this summer and while the weather is like 90 degrees this week we wish it didn’t close for Labor Day.
Thanks for a great summer!
(Here are a few snapshots I took there this summer)

Summer Reading Program

So far this summer we have been accomplishing our summer reading program goals my kids have completed level 1 & 2.  I think that I’ve read them over 50 books now (we usually read 3+ a night).  They were delighted to get their prizes especially their ice cream coupons (nobody told them ice cream was 50cents at spring street).  They also have won free books and candy.
I have also finished two books towards my reading goals bringing my year total to 6.  I finished Fire and Fury, by Michael Wolfe,  and Moonglow by Michael Chapon.  I like both except for moonglow was a bit vulgar.

Band Concerts

I have been trying to the kids to the weekly band concerts as a mid week event.  We love to go.  We like seeing friends there and playing in the water and having picnics. It is a free or low cost entertainment event for us.
Here are a few photos from a handful of concerts.
