Watched another movie. This movie was a bit lacking it was confused about what was happening and what time period it was and then it was like “hurry up and wrap it up” at the end like it only 1/2 explained it. I actually almost turned it off several times but somehow I stuck with it.

Movie 5 Don’t Worry Darling
Watched another movie. This movie was a bit lacking it was confused about what was happening and what time period it was and then it was like “hurry up and wrap it up” at the end like it only 1/2 explained it. I actually almost turned it off several times but somehow I stuck with it.

Movie 3/4- enola Holmes 1 & 2
I actually tried to watch Enola Holmes a while back but fell asleep and when the second one came out I decided to watch them back to back. I actually liked them both although they are a bit corny. Millie Bobbie Brown is a delight and the story is cute. And I like period movies costumes too. Oh I do so love Helena Bonham Carter as well so that was an extra treat. I think my kids would have liked it as well so maybe we will put it in our movie jar.
I swear I also probably watched other movies this year but when I try to think of them I have nothing so I guess I better get a move on watching things.

Movie 2 - The Beguiled
For my second movie this year I randomly watched The Beguiled. (Technically I also watched a few movies my kids picked) I can’t say it was good it was kind of meh. Very Sofia Coppola. I do love a historical period type movie and story but this one was just very moody.

Movie - The Great Gatsby
I hadn't been to the movies in ages but I am a sucker for period movies and movies written from books. So I took myself to see the new gatsby. Which I must say I enjoyed thoroughly even at the $19 price tag to see it in NYC. I enjoyed Toby McGuire especially as well as myrtle and Jordan characters even though they were smaller parts. My only complaint was the party scenes might have been a bit much - but I did love how the blended in new music with the 20s jazz and the camera work was very interesting. Anyhow it was a good movie worth a trip to the theater for and now I am waiting on my invitation to a party in east egg.

Movie - Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
We picked Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, partially because of the time it was showing partially because we didn't want to see the other movies. And we weren't disappointed. It's an adorable story about a "retirement home" in India. It's light hearted and funny and I must say I do love a movie about old people - who wants to rent Driving Miss Daisy or Cocoon with me - anyone? ;) Anyhow I did enjoy the movie and it made me want to visit India even more than I already do although I have to say I'm pretty sure that behavior of the Indian mother in the movie is NOT what it's like in Indian cultural but I could be wrong. It also made me feel blessed to have many Indian friends who have taught me so many things about Indian culture. Anyhow it's worth paying $10 + $10 for popcorn to see and I'd even rent it when it comes out.

Movie Time - War Horse
So for Christmas we went and saw War Horse. Which is a movie that is about a incredible horse - not Mr. Ed. It's a love story about a boy and his horse and the journey that takes place when they get separated and how they find each other again. I thought the movie was good although not really believable. At least not to me. The end scenes were just like Gone with the Wind to me - WTG with that Steven Spielberg I kept expecting the son to tell the dad it's just about the land or the horse or something. Anyhow it was a good movie worth seeing however I am glad I saw it as a matinee so we could save a little money.

Movie - J Edgar
I think this is my second Movie in November I think I saw something on a date early on. Regardless to say the date and that movie aren't worth mentioning.
J. Edgar however was a great. Can we say Oscars??? I think this might have been the first movie I've seen all year that has Oscar potential although perhaps I'm forgetting something that was stellar.
I usually don't care for Leonardo Dicaprio and his big head or baby face. But his performance as J. Edgar Hoover was great. The movie tells the story of the making of the FBI as well as J Edgar. I don't want to give anything away but YOU SHOULD SEE IT. 10.08.2011
Movie - 50/50
So the other night I went and saw 50/50. I wanted to see it particularly because Joshua Gordon Levitt was in it and I loved him in 100 Days of Summer (I love that movie rent it if you haven't see it). Anyhow back to 50/50. This is a comedy about a guy who gets cancer and how that changes his life. Cancer not usually a funny topic, but the characters in the movie make it surprisingly lighter. It was funny without being over the top and there was a heartwarming sadness about it too. I am not ashamed to admit I did cry for a split second. Oh and I'm not a huge Seth Rogen fan - but I didn't mind his vulgarity or humor in this movie because it was balanced out with Joshua's character. Anyhow overall I would see this again - it's not 100 days of summer but still worth the $10 to see it in the theater.

Movie - My Idiot Brother
Went and saw "My Idiot Brother" or as I call it - "My brother's the idiot" as the movie for this month. (I went to see something in August although it was so un-memorable I never remembered to blog about it. Whoops!) SJ asked about seeing this before when Jackie and I were talking about movies but for some reason I kept telling him I wasn't interested. To give him some credit I should have listened. This movie was funny. It had a story that's not been played out a thousand times. And I surprisingly to me it was NOT a movie with the type of slapstick comedy that I thought it was going to be. I also really liked the cast, even the idiot british husband. So here it is I'm admitting I was wrong and SJ you were right. Anyhow Cute Movie! Cute People! Cute Humor! Go see it!
Anyhow I'm glad we waited to see it at my new favorite theater in the Boston Metro area the Delux or whatever it was called. It was so sparkly and clean, and I loved that they had hot dogs and beer. I can't wait to return to eat in their restaurant. 8.01.2011
Movie Time - Friends with Benefits
So this month I went and saw Friends with Benefits I also saw a few other movies not in the theater on DVD but let's just go with this one. It's a pretty predictable movie about some cute people who are friends and decide to hook up. And then they decide hey wait we like each other but push each other away and then come back. There's not really even a real twist to the movie so hopefully I didn't give it away. Overall it was funny and it was good to go to the movies since I love them. And I like Mila and Justin together they are cute, although I must say I wish Justin Timberlake would go back to singing and dancing I like that JT better although it's embarrassing to say but Sexy Back lives on forever when I'm at the gym.

Movie Time - Company Men
Movies again this month have been "ugh" - but I did rent a good one recently. The Company Men - it has an all star cast with Ben Affleck, Tommy Lee Jones, Chris Cooper, and Kevin Costner. I really liked Tommy Lee in this one it was a better roll than his cop or FBI parts. Anyhow without giving too much away it's a movie about a guy who gets laid off in downsizing and his struggles after he loses his big impressive job. But more than that it's about greed, pride, friendship, loyalty. While I thought the movie had a good story I really felt like they could have shown the main character struggle a bit more you almost couldn't believe that charming good looking Ben was downsized and couldn't find a job it was almost as if he wasn't really looking in the movie but instead golfing or driving around in his Porsche. Or that his family was really noticing the loss of income aside from random Xbox comment and his son all pouty after school. But overall this movie was worth seeing, and I really liked the ending.
I will save you the reviews of the other junky movies I saw although Another Year was almost as boring as Somewhere but at least there was some dialog and character development save yourself the time and money on that one.

Movie Time - Somewhere
So I was super excited for this movie - a Sophia Coppala film + Stephen Dorf and then I was super let down. But OMG it was horrible I wish I hadn't seen it in the theater I thought the scenes of sitting on the sofa or driving were going to put me to sleep. I think the first half hour had like 15 words in it making it hard to keep interest. I can appreciate artsy films but I like them better with a little more substance. I think the best part was the daughter Elle Fanning - who might have been the only good part of the movie. Anyhow that's all the good I have to say about this one so I'm going to end my commentary on that note.

Movie Time - Something Borrowed
I haven't blogged about the last few movies I've seen because they weren't worth mentioning. I saw Something Borrowed the other day which is a fun romantic comedy. The plot was really predictable but still it was better than the last romantic comedies I've seen. Girl likes boy. Boy is with girls friend. Girl and boy don't know what to do about it.
I didn't think parts of it were believable because true friends don't act like Kate Hudson's Character - she seemed to be the most selfish friend I've even seen. I know people that are selfish but they aren't that over the top with their friends. Anyhow I did enjoy John Krasinski and Ginnifer Goodwin - they worked well together. Of course I have a celebrity crush on John. Anyhow it's a good one to wait for the DVD if you don't want to pay $10 to see it at the theater.
