The best thing I ever made

I am not joking when I say that #babyburf is the best thing I ever made.  He's seriously magic.   A true gift from god.  Sure he might keep me up all night and make things like showering difficult but he is the best.  So pardon the interruptions of blogging while I examine his perfect little fingers and spend my days nuzzling his sweet head.

He's Here!

This cutie showed up yesterday for AuntTheas birthday!  We are smitten already.

#babyburf Nursery

No longer a Work in Progress.  The Baby's nursery is finally ready.
This dresser took us forever to locate and then my friend Kathleen just so happened to have an antique one she didn't need and it's dark wood (SOLID wood it's heavy).  That's pretty much awesome.
Anyhow here are some completed photos.  The crib we purchased new from Amazon with a gift card.  I made the quilt, crib skirt and mobile.  The Dresser will also be his changing table but we need to get a pad to add to the top.  There's a basket with cloth wipes and changing "accessories that was re-purposed from my craft room.   And the accent wall was our pinterest fail that we just decided to own and freehand ourselves.
We are using a Simple Human trash can with a wet-dry bag for our cloth diapers.   The dresser contains most of his little clothes, the cloth diapers and some Project Life books (because he won't know any different ;).  I want to find a rug to match too but honestly I don't care if I don't I like the hardwoods by themselves.
On the other side of the room. I re-purposed my old craft shelf which will hold baby things and toys, and books.   I still need to get a few more matching baskets but Megan and Dan gave me the blue striped one, and I found the green bucket at Ikea in the gardening section.
All the others were re-purposed from my craftroom.    The blue velvet chair was a thrift store find and while I said goodbye to the sofa I held onto the chair because I love it.
I had these prints I picked up at a art show for a mentally challenged work program like 5+ years ago maybe and I they seemed to match his room so I decided to put them up.  PS I've had them all this time and never did anything with them (they are hung straighter in real life too).

We hung these mirrors from Ikea up too (ignore the finger prints).   This toy box was Dustin's dad's and currently it holds blankets but at some point it can hold the baby's toys.  I want to make a matching cushion for it and already bought fabric but it's a project for another time.

And while his closet is not entirely storing his stuff he does have a bunch of cute little outfits that we hung up for him.
My friend Lynley and I painted his name on the wall too.  It's funky and imperfect and that's exactly what I love about it.

Oh I would be remiss not to throw out a thanks to my project sidekick Kathleen who painted, pulled staples, opened baby boxes, sorted clothes, gave us the dresser and so much more.  THANK YOU!
And to my husband who also puts up with my never ending projects that seem to happen in the babies room even when he disagrees with what's happening - Thanks mister!
Now all we need is the baby to show up already - and we wait.

14 on 14 June

I was almost certain our baby was going to be here for the 14th but he wasn't.  Our day was pretty much a slow Saturday.
1 - we slept in.  Dusty and Floppy extra long.
2 - pop tarts for breakfast (I usually have cereal so this is a treat)
3 - worked on my challenge quilt (this is taking far too long and wastes tons of fabric
4 - dusty and I had Mexican for lunch.  The spicy salsa did not induce labor.
5 - homemade fruit infused water
6 - a little shopping - I disliked all of these baby clothes but bought more reusable napkins.
7 - we visited Bloomington and the chocolate moose (Dustin loves this place I find their ice cream ok)
8 - we walked around Bloomington sadly Foursquare was closed
9 - giant egg outside Farm (this is still on my list of places to eat)
10 - u r mostly boring (probably true) this was written on a bathroom mirror
11- this might win the award for most awkward bathroom.   It's up three steps and standing clearance is about 5'5" I did not die but it's super awkward using this 40 wks pregnant and being 5'11"
12 - Fountain from our walk + 40 wks pregnant me
13 - graffiti wall and Dustin (Bloomington has all sorts of interesting graffitti)
14 - me and graffitti can anyone read this?  I do like that in the top right corner it says pizza and donuts lol
And that's a wrap on my images.  What started out slow ended rather well photo wise.

Project Life 2014 - May

May was pretty much about the baby and our trip to Florida for Jono and Los wedding.  It was fun to use up saved items from the wedding to use in these pages I used everything from the flower cones to the table treat bag.  I mixed in some navy and pink scrap papers I had too to add some other colors for the rest of the month.
Most of my non vacation photos this month were rather dull I must admit.  There were a few highlights in there like baseball, babysitting and quilts!  Oh and that cutie Logan graduated.
My baby shower was in May but the photos were pretty sparse and mostly horrible shots!  Also we found lynley's wedding dress (hidden from all eyes for now).  Kathleen also gave me the bear sticker for some kind of foster care promotion.
And family vacation/wedding time.  I used a large family photo and cut it to fit in the sleeves.  I wish I had cropped it a little differently so heads weren't seperately but you know it happens. The doily is actually from the flower cones at the wedding.  I cut it into the right size and made it a card.
This spread is my favorite from may! I love some of the photos of my siblings and I like the little hearts left over from something from my wedding. And that veneer diamond is just fun.  And even the table treat coffee bag gives it some dimension.  Sorry it's a little blurry it's not in real life.
And last but not least the back side of the wedding spread plus my pocket page for all other saved things.  This month had a whole mess of things saved graduation invites, baby birthdays, and Jono and lo wedding things.

Summer Reading List 2014

I made a list last year for summer reading and I read probably 1/2 of those books. This year I'll be off work for a part of the summer with the baby so I figured it was good to make a list to attempt to read as well. If I can finish this list then I'll be well on my way to completing my 52 books this year too so that's a plus.   Most of this list was started in my phone a while back back but I added in a few others I'd heard about recently as well, and I even left a spot for a TBD book.
  • The Fault In Our Stars - by John Green
  • Hyperbole and a Half - Allie Brosh
  • Wonder - RJ Palacio
  • Detroit City Is the Place to Be: The Afterlife of an American Metropolis - Mark Binelli
  • Re-imaging Detroit - John Gallagher
  • I'm Proud of You - by Tim Madigan
  • Let's Pretend this Never Happened - By Jenny Lawson
  • Bringing up Bebe - Pamela Druckerman
  • Life from scratch - Melissa Ford
  • Gone with the Wind - Margret Mitchell
  • Crazy Love - Francis Chan
  • __________ TBD

Book 37 - The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

I really wanted to read The fault In our stars but there's a waiting list at the library.  So instead I picked another book that's popular with a movie "the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" by Stieg Larson.   The book is based in Sweden (originally written in Swedish) and is kind of a "mystery" or at least that's the way I would classify it.  This book went super fast however I thought the whole ending was rather lame.  I think it should have ended with the mystery solved not this weird banker gangster ending, it was almost as if it was added as a "quick wrap" and it wasn't that connected to the  bulk of the story.
Anyhow onward into some other summer reading so maybe I can get to my 52 books soon.  I still want to read The Fault In Our Stars, and maybe add in Gone with the Wind to my summer list - back later with other books as I make a summer list.

#babyburf Third Trimester

As we wait for the arrival of our little guy I figured it was probably time for a third trimester update. While things are still fresh in my mind here's a third trimester list-
  • Today we are at 39 weeks.
  • He's over 8 lbs probably and actually probably about 9 lbs now.
  • I am feeling and seeing him move around in my belly.
  • He's very active however he likes to stop when others try to feel him moving, especially his dad.

  • I have even more heartburn - I will not miss this once the baby comes.
  • I continually feel like I have been riding a horse as my hips and pelvic region are changing.
  • I now waddle walk which I try not to do but sometimes it's unavoidable.
  • I'm still not into traditional baby stuff so much but I have accepted some of it will be here it's unavoidable. (It's a struggle).
  • I am very excited for cloth diapers and cloth wipes.
  • We are very excited to meet and see him as are his aunts, uncles and grandparents - being the first grand baby makes it just that much more exciting.
  • Sleeping has become more difficult at I get up at least 5 times to use the restroom at night.
  • My pelvic has hurt significantly in the last few weeks which I find walking around and stretching seems to help.
  • The doctor says this is because he's positioned himself lower in my pelvis (positioning himself for labor).
  • Dustin would be very pleased if he just went ahead and showed up already he asks me several times a day if the baby is coming now.
  • He also has been telling people I'm "nesting".
  • I'm not entirely sure he knows what nesting is which is too cute.
  • I'm actually sick to death of everyone asking me how I feel.
  • I have decided that maternity leave in the USA is a joke.
  • I am grateful however to have the tiniest leave at my company.
  • Also grateful to have good insurance that covers almost 100% of normal pregnancy stuff.

  • Seems I'm a slacker when it comes to taking baby bump photos.
  • We wrote a birth plan.
  • We are taking some birthing classes.
  • I'm also guessing that he doesn't actually come until after his due date even though he's positioned, I'm dilated, and I have had sporadic contractions.
  • I think maybe like 6/19 or 6/20.
  • We will just see though you never know - see you soon little guy.
